No brakes - somewhere Eltham/Greensborough to get them fixed?
eplatypus - July 19th, 2009 at 06:25 PM

Evening all,

My 1970ish beetles brakes are gone - completely, no brake fluid left and no indication as to where it's gone. I've got a preferred workshop out near my work Boronia way, but I live Greensborough/Eltham and was wondering if anyone can recommend anywhere I can go to get it fixed locally. Looking for quality, not cheap (not too expensive, mind), so if there's some recommendations, be happy to hear them.

I would say the brake master cylinder leaking through the secondary cup into the centre tunnel. Replace the master cylinder and i think you will fix the problem.

try volkshome automotive thomastown.

You could also try Volkscourt (WM Motors) also in Thomastown. Ivanhoe Court (Not sure of the number). I got a master cylinder there recently for the same reason.
Good luck.

the kits aren't too expensive....
but most people don't have any success with them..
the bore may be scored...

I had My master cylinder repaired with a stainless steel sleeve and a kit put in it...
at a brake repair place...
so there is an alternative..
sleeve will never wear out...

cheers

LEE

PS: Many people have this done to old cars..

Lee, the kits aren't expensive but 99 times out of 100 the cylinder is pitted badly and needs resleeving or replacing, most times we opt for the latter due to cost and time factors in resleeving.

Thanks all. Got Erik (err, the Beetle) back today from Volkscourt - blown rear left brake cylinder. All good now, can now go places and stop when I get there.

Great news Eplatypus. A lot cheaper than a master cylinder!!
