Tunnel Question
Newt - July 24th, 2009 at 12:20 AM

Hi Guys,

Has anyone painted / sealed the inside of your tunnel before? Is there an easy way to do this?

At the moment the pan is off the car with the pan halves removed (for replacement).

i wouldnt worry about sealing it

I would use some heavy duty fish oil so it runs into the seams but dosent stop any mositure seaping out

you could also drip check the seams if you want too

The Melbourne Volkswagen factory sealed and painted inside the tunnel when the car was built, by using a full-dip prep and paint process, the first of its kind in Australia.

The only things that could affect this, all these years later, would be if you had your pan acid-dipped (which would remove the VW paint). Welding on new floor sections would also destroy part of the original paint where the heat transfers across.

Yes Dave's suggestion about running down the tunnel (until it drips out) is probably best. You could also use Lanotec http://www.lanotec.com.au/?link=3

Thanks Guys,

The welding is the issue.

I was thinking about running Penetrol down the inside the tunnel seams.

Any thoughts on this?
