My 2.0l twin-cab has no synchro on second, and third whines pretty bad. I have a spare gearbox that I was planning to check out, but I figure I'd need hundreds of special tools etc. Does anyone know of someone good who does Kombi gearbox reconditioning, or perhaps sells them exchange ? I'm located just west of Sydney, but anywhere in Sydney is OK.

I've had two gearboxes rebuilt at Bruce Geddes Automotive, in Peakhurst. They have been a VW workshop since 1966 but also specialise in transmissions.

They built me a 1500 Type 3 gearbox with a 40-hp 3rd gear many years ago and did a great job. Last year they rebuilt my Kombi's auto trans.
