I've just rebuilt an old 1600 engine and fitted it back into my fastback to discover a new problem with the clutch.
The clutch is now permanently dis-engaged. I'm assuming its the clutch as its as if the engine isnt connected to the gearbox! I've checked the pedal
and cable assembly works (it worked fine on the fastback before I swapped in the replacement engine), the lever moves but there is barely any
resistance in the pedal.
I bought the engine second hand in good faith that it was in good working order. My guess is that there was something wrong with the clutch in the
engine, or that I possibly damaged something (throwout bearing perhaps) when installing the engine?
Any thoughts?
mine is the same i believe... i can only feel the clutch start to disengage right at the end of the pedal stroke.. maybe cable is too long??
i tightened mine but nothing much happens... while engine is running i cant get mine into gear? is yours the same??
i think i have the opposite problem to you ????
cheers
Luke
yep my problem is the complete opposite! I can have the engine running and change gears without the use of the pedal to no effect.
Is it the same clutch as before OR have you put an early type clutch with a late throwout race/fork assembly. Think you may have to drop the engine
again and change something. The later ones have a tube extension/guide which runs inside the new clutches but fouls on the early clutch.

that sounds like a likely reason, I'll try it out tomorrow and report back!
