Will superbug brakes fit a "normal" beetle?

Hi all,

Long time enthusiast but newbie member.

I'm considering a beetle project or a built car, and I have a question regarding brakes.

I would prefer an IRS/balljointed car, and I have available to me a 1302 superbug that has falcon pattern disc brakes all round. This brake conversion would obviously be very nice on my bug whenever I get it.

Having searched through the forum I can't realy find any real references to superbug brakes.

So my question is, simply, if I were to buy this superbug just to get the brake conversion out of it, would those brakes fit onto a normal beetle of the IRS & balljoint type?

not sure mate. Id id say it would be a waste of a nice superbug to harvest it. id much prefer a super for handling, obviously not for looks.

hope someone can answer your question. :)

It depends what you deem a normal beetle as brakes changed as the years went on. If we knew what year the base was we would have a rough idea assuming that original parts had not been changed.

I just put early super bug calipers on my bj IRS 69 bug.

I had an issue with a cross threaded brake line in my original and only changed one side.

Bolted straight on. same pads, dust seals (cause they were rooted), same bolt pattern etc. only difference in the (i think its called the bleeder line or whateva?!?!?) with the rubber caps on them. the super bug had two. original only one.

The universal calipers are equipped with two bleeding screws, so they are not handed anymore..
