Hopping MK 3 VR6
dubsurfer - October 5th, 2009 at 09:30 AM

Hope somebody can hep explain why my new VR6 feels unstable in the rear.It feels like it hops when it hits bumps.
This is really not good with so much power..........
I am guessing it could be shocks, or sway bar bushes......
How do I check if its these?
This is the first watercooled VDUb i have owned in a long time, it all looks very complicated!!!?
Thanks

Push down on the rear bumper, it should go down once, (obviously, cause your pushing) but in recoil with the springs, push back up once (only once).

If it bounces up and down a couple times you know your shocks are gone. and aren't dampening the springs.

Does your cars handling in corners feel different? body roll changed? perhaps a bit more oversteer in the rear? Sway bars would be a good point in direction if this is an issue. If its no different to how you remember, then you know it ain't them. Even my fwd celica had a bit of oversteer rather than under, simply cause of the fouled rear sway bar bushes. It makes it a bit more interesting now...
