OIL PUMPS
clinker42 - October 23rd, 2009 at 12:05 PM

Hi Guys

Putting my daughters good motor today, have the short assembled and went to install the oil pump, well it wont go in. The oil pump body where the gear drive goes through is about 250 thou too long and when you go to slide in the oil pump the body hits the camshaft before the body meets the crank halves. Now I can take some of the oil pump body but that will then leave me with the drive gear too long as well. Its a Schadeck oil pump and Scat cam and gear.

Anyone know what the issue is.

Thanks Trevor

Hi

The Scat cam is a 3 bolt, sounds like you have a 4 bolt pump, the 4 bolt pump is much deeper than a 3 bolt.

Hi

Often the drive gear can be made shorter or longer, they are 2 piece and can be pushed around to get proper engagement.

Shucks

Just as I read your post Steve, I thought, why didn't I just drive the gear on a bit more and cut the extra shaft of.
Oh well, I am old after all.

Hi

You live and learn, the video that the colonel posted was interesting, funny how he used the back lobe as a reference and not the oil pump drive.

Ye, was thinking that, Mine case is all buttoned up now so I cant see if that lines up. But I lined mine up with the slot on the cam, in that video the slot isnt lined up with the rear lobe at 180. My cam timing is probably out.
