Is it possible to use this on a standard oil pump, or will it just create issues...?

I haven't used one of those myself but before these were available I modified the pump & rear housing & used a Valiant remote oil filter,it gave me about another 1/2 litre oil and is still on the Ghia after 35 years plus with no ill effects.

That pump cover/filter housing won't work without the correct pump that goes with it.
