The generator is already 12V.
They have inbuilt regulators don't they?
use the same stand? Generator fan fits just the same...? same belt? differences? Same wiring?
Thanks fellas!
CHris
some (usuall aftermarket, I think) have internal regs, some don't. Physical differences: you will need to change/replace the genny stand and -
possibly - the fuel pump.
Good idea to double check the specs and condition of your fan while you are there, too
it was the 74-some 75 ones that were ext regulated
75-76 and all aftermarket ones are internal now
with how cheap there getting its got me stuffed why people are still out there driving on generators
a nice original rarely driven stocker yea but a daily driver??
Chris,
Here's a read.

Hiya Sean,
That is, by far and away, the single best illustrated write-up on generator/alternator conversion I have seen. Matter of fact, it just might be the
best illustrated write-up (on any VW related subject) I have ever seen.
Awesome my friend!

Mike,
No worries. Although I have to keep my slightly befuddled brain in gear to update that post with some additional info.
Lee,
Isn't the OG stand made out of mag alloy?? Bonfire time whipping out a grinder on to it if it is .
Regards
Sean
If you can find a good origional bosch alternator
it would be better than the cheap CHINESE versions available nowdays
