Hi all, considering getting the wheels from the Kombi sandblasted and powdercoated.

Looking for estimated costs and recommended places in Sydney.

Also, is this a job where you can wait for them to be done or you'd need to borrow some spares for a days?

Once the powder coating has been done, how soon could the wheels be put back on for driving?

i had 5 rims sandblasted and then powdercoated white, ( they are now for sale on this forum) and it cost me $45.00 each rim. had them done by a mob called Scott and Endsoll on the Sunshine Coast Qld.:bounce

Hey Scott I'm getting some blasted in the next week or two. U2U me and we'll see if we can get 'em done at the same place. Not sure if the powder coat tho...

Best to borrow some spares for a few days. I had some roofbars done, and I had to wait until they were using the colour I wanted.

I'm not sure whether time is needed for curing. I was told I could use the roofbars straight away, but I did notice that the powdercoating was very soft - I bit like plastic coating used on clothes horses and shower hangers. :o

I had my wheels blasted and powder coated at the following place. I am fairly sure I was charged $45 per wheel. $15 for blasting and $30 for coating.
I dropped them off one day and picked them up the next morning. The guy there was pretty friendly and helpful.
You can put the freshly coated wheels on straight away.

Well that confirms my suspicions - the powdercoaters I went to weren't very good.

They didn't even disassemble the roofbars before powdercoating them!! (Nor did they suggest I do it)

for sand blasting and powder coating do you just send the rimms in and they do there job and all......then can you put you tyres and everything back on and there good to drive with again ??

I guess the other question in view of the replies would be who could lend me some spare wheels while I got the job done please.

Pretty sure offhand I'm only running 14s...does that sound right? Excuse my ignorance.

Oh also, once they are powdercoated would it be worth puttling some osrt of laquer or clear coat on top for ease of cleaning and general preventative against wear and tear?

I have to get some original 356 wheels powder coated. Two of the 5 are chomed with aged chrome. Do I need to get these stripped before I sandblast?

I had my roll bar powder coated and it had old crappy chrome on it and they just sand blasted it off before doing the coating.
In the end it is best to give them a look as they can tell you what they can and can't do.

I guess it depends a bit on what you are going to do with the car. Mine are on my buggy and so go off road at times and now have scratches etc on them. They are easy enough to clean but of course don't look as good as when I first got it done. I did try to put Glisten PC (the POR 15 product) on, but as it needs a very clean environment and 4 days to harden I gave up after stuffing up one wheel and needing to get to reblasted and coated again. :cry
If the car is just for road use I would think that just the powder coating would be fine.

I had a set of rims done for $120<i must have got a bargain. You shouldnt need to put any further coatings on once their done they clean quite easily.
