My question relates to the legality of spot light placement on a QLD registered car (my manx)
1. Is it legal to mount them above my windscreen?
2. If not where else apart from the bumper is it legal to mount the lights.
I'm not 100% sure if this also applies in Queensland, but here in the ACT it's illegal to have spotlights above the level of the headlights, and it's illegal to have anything protruding/mounted in front of the bullbar or bumperbar. I'm fairly sure these laws apply in most places (if not everywhere). HTH
I think you're gonna be stuck with putting them on the bumper. Most states won't allow them mounted up higher, but again, I'm not sure
about Qld. Brad or Wes would know for sure.
Unfortunately - Unless things have changed in the last five years then they will have to go within a bar. The must not protrude and they will be
restricted to a certian height of the road which I think is 1.5 meters max.
I'm now in NSW and I though things whould be the same but the red necks and their utes have four massive spots (up to 300mm diameter) up on their
roll bars.
I remember when I was landscape gardening and a miner who was living at the single mens quarters I was working at came from NSW and the cops hassled
him until lowered his landcruiser ute back to ground level, a 40cm drop; removed all his spot light bar two and downsized his monster truck tyres.
For some reason NSW authorities seem to have the same rules as Qld but many more alternative vehicles are allowed to get away with max modifications
because of relaxed engineers. The case seems to be "I have a certificate that says I can" and so they do.
Righto... thanks a lot. I was wondering cause there is a lot of 4x4's getting around with the lights mounted on the roof- I was hoping to mount some spotties on my roll cage but I also want to stay legal.
