pulled the motor out of my bus to change the rings and a head and was looking at the mainshaft and seen it had some marks on the spline ,then next thing it was coming out ,but not right out,box was driving when parked 6 yr ago ,but havent driven it myself only in 1st and reverse up and down driveway

You'll need to pull the bellhousing off to see why its seperated from the mainshaft. There is a circlip, a small threaded stud, and the reverse gear idler.

Makes it easy to line the clutch plate up

Just push it back in when you are finished

Easy fix. All will be clear when bell housing is off. Maybe DB can post some pics for you.

well haven't got box out yet,but the head i was changing was because of a falling apart heli-coil ,but surprise surprise when i took it off for a look

well 1800 box is now in after changing the input shaft and circlip from one to the other, then topping up the oil and a new shift bush up front and coupling at the rear:)
