Superbug Steering Connecting Rod - rebuildable?
Snap Crackle Bang - December 29th, 2009 at 01:34 PM

Hi,
I'm in the middle of replacing the bushes, ball joints and tie rods in my 73 L bug. (It's got a 3 bolt front end).
I can detect a small amount of play in the ball joint at the end of the connecting rod which connects to the steering box. The other end, (which connects to the idler arm) is a little stiff. Is it possible to get new joints fitted to the ends of the connecting rod, or should I start searching for another rod?

The Gregory's manual calls it a "steering connecting rod" in page 132, but yeah it could be called a drag link.
If I could replace the ball joints mine would be fine.

Hi

I don't think Ive ever seen one wear out the ball joints, the ball joints are not replaceable.

The rubber boot was missing, so that explains the wear.
I guess I'll be looking for a replacement.
