I am after some aftermarket seats for a 3 point seat base
Now the problem is they are a very high base - i had some Recaro copise but on the stock base they sat high
We modified a Recaro base out of an Audi to fit but they didnt slide all that well.
We lowerd the bum of it and when it slid forward the locating hole went too high
Anyway - i have some more bases so i am going to try again
I have seen kombi seats that have a very "flat" base
Thinking these would be ok??
Anyone have any ideas what i could use??
Barry
Hi Barry
You need to have a good look at the seats in Davids bug, Honda Prelude.
Steve
^^ yep. They are sweet. Nice seat and sit at a good height.
Hi, i have just fitted these to my cab, they are honda prelude seats and were a pain to fit as the hinge for the seat back on the inside is part of the track
Were they 3 poit or early 2 track??
They are a early track, mounting them on a 3 point mount would be hard, i have another set in my other car and these are another pair of honda's, they mount with 4 bolts on the flat base and were simple to mount to the original frame, the height of the front of the swab to the floor is 300MM on both sets of seats.
My trouble is the 3 point base is a lot higher than the 2 runner set up
Hi Bizarre,
i have done a 3 point mount before, the prelude seats would be very difficult, the seats in my 60 beetle are a simple 4 bolt mount on the bottom of
the seat, you would have to fabricate the complete frame but would be a simple bolt up job to the seat
Yeah - here are some of the problems
This is a standard base - you can see the uplift
This is the Recaro base i was using.
trouble was the 2 legs were all wrong.
We never quite got them in the right place and they made it hard to adjust
When you sit the GTi Swift seat on the stock base it is too close to the steering wheel
So i have a couple of options
1) get my stock seats recovered
2) get some thin aftermarket seats put on the stock bases - i like this one as the stock base slides as it should
3) put the GTi seats on the Recoaro bases - just need to fix them first
Hi Bazarre,
Just a suggestion, what about lowering the front track on the top of the box attached to the floor pan, then you could shorten the legs on the back,
my seats attach on to the top of the standard seat frames from the early car,the top of both seats are 300mm from the floor to the top of the swab,
what height are you looking for
that would be the way to do it Bazza
cut the bulky bit at the front and shorten it down then do the rear legs to match
Trim all the brackets of the seat bases then weld 2 bits of inch square tube across the frame to mount the honda seats
thats how i did mine in the Orange car cut a pre 67 seat base in half to get the right height then the squaretube on top
Hi Barry
When I did the Prelude seats in Davids 1303 I cut down the stock base height.
I assume your not going to use the 3 point factory slide once the seats are in place, I don't. I actually have screws going through the VW runners to
make it more secure.
So looking at your seat base it looks like you can chop it down heaps to get the seat at the correct height.
Steve
This is the only photo I have have of the bases in Davids 1303
OK - i am going with the Recaro base
we did a lot of chopping/measuring/welding/drinking in the 40 deg C day today
We managed to blend the stock Recaro front with the stock VW 75L back
Havent finished yet but reckon it looks pretty good
I have found some REAL nice Cobra seats at Revolution Racegear
Had a look at Autotechnica but NO ONE has stock
"yeah get what you want and if you dont like it loose your deposit !" - go jump
If i am paying money i want to sit in it
Anyway - i am sure i will post pics of the out come soon
