73 Beetle Windscreen type
clinker42 - January 27th, 2010 at 08:52 AM

Hi Guys

I think you guys have told me there is two windscreen types, how do I tell which it is. When you talk about flat screen, is that flat when looking from one side to the other or is it flat across the bottom and top.

Thanks Trevor

flat and curved?? curved screens are only on supers/1303/ Lbug (struts up front) on aussie cars. if its curved, the glass actually has a curve on each side.

This is a curved windscreen

A flat screen is like a sheet of glass flat

So this would make this one a flat screen

correct.

Actually there are three different windscreens.

The completely flat windscreen is found on the splits, ovals and the bigger rear windows of about up to 1959.

In the 60s and 70s there is a slightly curved windscreen.

In the later 70s the fat chicks have a very curved wind screen.

Actually there were FOUR different windscreens.

1. The '54-'57 windscreen fitted to oval-window Beetles - completely flat.
2. The '58-'67 windscreen is slightly larger and slightly squarer than the oval winscreen, but still dead flat.
3. The '68-'75 windscreen fitted to the 1500, 1300, Superbug S and '76 1600 is slightly larger again but almost the same shape as (2). It has a very slight curve so it won't sit quite flat on a table.
4. The '73-75 windscreen on the Superbug L is considerably larger, and very curved.

OK OK

So when I order a windscreen from George, what do I order.

Well if you have a 1973 1300 or 1500 tell him that....
