CV joint torx key
glencsiro - January 30th, 2010 at 08:22 PM

Where can I get the right size torx key for undoing the CV joint 12 star bolts.
I've got a set marked M40 (to small) M45 (to big) what's the right size and where can I get it?

Thanks in advance'
Glen

I'm based in tasmania.
I cleaned the bolt heads out and asumed they were torx, haven't damaged any of the bolts but I could tell the torx wasn't exactly right.
Thanks or the info, I'll try the local shops and see if I can turn anything up.

mine were damaged due to previous owner
the allan key so i used the allan key that wasn't in a set and weld the bolt on

this way you get to replace both the cv boot and the bolts aswell

i DON'T THINK THEY ARE toRX ???

MULTI HEX OR ALLEN KEYS...

SOME HAVE A MIXTURE....

BEST TO RENEW THEM AFTER GETTING THEM OUT...

AND PAINT THEM GREEN.... LOL

the allen headed ones are very common in bolt shops..

The 3/8 ratchet drive is the proper 12 star key for the CV joints, the round plate with the holes is for drilling 4 extra dowel holes in the crank and flywheel so I can run 8 pins.
The long shaft is the clutch alignment tool and the large cog is a torque drive for undoing and tightening of the flywheel and rear wheel hub, works a shit load better than a long breaker bar, so much easier.

much better than the tool sold in the USA that You hit with a Very LARGE hammer....lol

I have always wondered what happened to all those VW special tools...
local VW Mechanic said every VW workshop had to have them...
most were NEVER used.... lol LEE
