Csome of you VW historians confirm these dimensions for me please :
Type 1,3 CV 94mm outside size. 6 x 8mm bolts. 86mm bolt circle or 80 mm bolt circle?
Type 2,4 CV 100mm outisde size, 6 x 8mm bolts. 86mm bolt circle.
930 CV 108mm outside size, 6 x 10mm bolts. 94mm bolt circle.
Thanks heaps dubbers.
Type 1 and 3 is 90mm spigot and 78 bolt circle where it locates in the flanges,
although they step up a little larger for most of the body, that you can see on an assembly ON the car.
The other sizes you have (bus and 930) match my NOTES and old CVs.
Hi
This is a useful reference site http://www.blindchickenracing.com/How_to/CVJoints_Axles/cv_joints_101.htm
Steve
Yep I used the blind chicken site to get the measurements I had. But didn't give me the bolt circle for the type 1.
Thanks for the type 1 measurements Dave, 78 mm sux.
I'm trying to make a flange that fits all three cv styles.
Outside size of 108mm is not a problem
The inside size to clear the cage on a 930 seems to be 73.5mm
If I put a type 1 CV on, it's bolt hole centres are 78mm (with 8mm bolts)
So this would mean the bolt holes come in to 74mm.
I doubt that would hold very well with .5mm of material at the edge of the thread.
Maybe I should just ditch the type 1 cv convept as they are small anyway and just have the 100mm and 108mm cv's working on the flange.
Hi
Type 1 CVs maybe a good fuse in the drive line, I had Type 2s on my old bug and managed to snap an output flange on a Quaife through my own stupidity.
A Type 1 CV may have let go before the output flange.
Steve
Good point Steve.
Taking another look at it, the 930 needs 60mm to clear the cage which will give me plenty of room to fit a type 1 and have meat around the threads.
All good.
