Pushrod Tubes
clinker42 - February 14th, 2010 at 06:15 PM

Hi Guys
My new lovely engine is stuffed. It has a pin hole in one of the pushrod tubes. Has anyone used these expandable pushrod tubes and are they any good or do they leak. George has some adjustable one and some spring loaded ones. I dont fancy dumping the heads already, its only ran for 5 minutes.

Go the top ones, copy of JC which I use as they are very high quality and work well, the knock offs are about 1/2 the price and close to the quality.

How come you got a hole in the tubes? new? The stainless ones are crap, they actually effect the head tension and they split.

No idea on the hole Matt, its not on the seam and its right where the straight tube meets the bellows. Its just like you poked a pin in it. So the ones in that pic from George are ok even though they are EMPI. Will get one sent down then. Would you buy JC (who has them) or you reckon the knock offs will be ok.

Thanks

I looked at the knockoff's (yep EMPI) after using a few sets of JC's but noticed although the springs are plated (JC's aren't) I felt the internal machining of the bore wasn't guite as nice, so they don't slide together as sweetly. Consequently I haven't used them to say whether they leak or not. Don't forget you may need more than just the one leaking, I'd recomend at least 2, the leaker and his closest partner for access/fitting reasons.

I can help with the JC's if you wish you can PM for more details.
