Converting a poptop to sunroof
karmannghia60 - July 9th, 2003 at 12:04 PM

Has anyone done this before on a splitty? I am looking at a '67 with a poptop but the Splitty is no longer a camper. Can it be converted to a "samba style" sunroof?

I intend to do a similar thing, Using Herbies Sunroof as a guide, depending on my energy level when I get to it.:D

So Herbie, how complex is the pull-back mechanism?

I know there is a couple of companies around that do rag top conversions, some say they can make them to any size. so would be perfect for what you need Ive got the ads somewhere will have a look for you.

Well its essentially a camed lock mechanism it would be a big job to make it from scratch and hardly worth the effort to make it the same as original, as there is so much tooling needed and then all the suroof buses were roof windowed as well.
I intend to focus mainly on the slide mecanisim and then a much more basic lock.
I have seen Fish's sunroof and it looks like it does the trick just fine.
