hey gays and gals, need a bit of help with my rear axel again
it makes a consistent squeaking noise when i drive. the slower i go, the longer the squeak, the faster i go the less noteable it is, and it is more high pitched then the other.
i had this problem with the original axel and the thread was rooted so i'm thinking it could be this again, or possibly the bearings. what do you think? replace the whole thing or just bearings???

its a 72 type 3, so i'm assuming irs
nothing has been done to it by me.

Unlikely to be the rear wheel bearings; they would rumble rather than squeak if they were on the way out.

Is it a 'squeak-squeak-squeak' noise that varies with the speed you go? Does it still happen if you apply the brakes?

I had that on my swing-axle Beetle once. The squeak squeak would go away when I pressed the brakes but would start again when I released them. It also only squeaked going forwards, not in reverse! It came from the right rear wheel.

I pulled the drum off, cleaned and emery-papered the insides and checked the shoes. Couldn't see anything wrong. Put it back together and it STILL squeaked.

In the end I fixed it by pulling off the drum again, and reversing the two shoes! Strange.

sounds just like what i'm experinencing. the old axel did it as well and it had a rooted thread
