I was checking a car out on the weekend. The owner was claiming it has a 1776 with dual 40mm weber. It was fairly dark so couldn't get a real
good look. I draw a diagram (below) of the linkage. Dashed lines are the cables. Basically there's like a little pulley bolted to the case which
has to cables one on each side going to the carbies. Are the Webers IDFs or IDAs or DCNs or what? I thought the IDAs linkage is either the hex bar
style or the Berg style which bolts to the fan housing! Can anyone help. I guess I could go back to have a better look. I am not really interested in
the engine. Just buying the car because of the disk brakes setup which I want.

draw a diagram (below) of the linkage. Dashed lines are the cables. Basically there's like a little pulley bolted to the case which has to cables
one on each side going to the carbies. - what you have drawn is the centre mount "push / pull" Kadron style linkage. This can be set up on
a Weber but is not normally the practice.
Are the Webers IDFs or IDAs or DCNs or what? - can be. They are all dual 2 barrel carbs. Yes these "normally" use the hex or berg. But
Aircooled.net
http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=FSC0001&c...
sell a centre mount that works on all. "Could" be one of those set ups. Sounds more like a set of Weber ICT's. (dual single barrels -
like Kads or FRD Dels)
How many barrels on each?
If he dont know what carbs he has - would you trust the brakes are done properly?? :jesus
They're dual carbs. Has the long aircleaners. I know the Kads style linkage well, this is not it definitely. The dashed lines are cables not rods
so they pull not push. So if someone knows what the IDFs are like, could they work with the pull (towards the centre of the engine) mechanism?
The guy bought the car like it is and he's not technically cluey, he hasn't done any work himself

I meant dual barrels
Look like old skool DNCF's to me
A fair carb. They were popular back in the 60's and 70's. But not as well set up in float and bowl set up
You never know they could be Berg ones with Deanosaur(sp?) manifolds
How much are they worth?
All depends if the throttle bushes are shot and if they run sweet.
They are "harder" to get parts for than IDF's but you still should be ok.
If they come with filters, manifolds, linkage etc then i would think at LEAST $750. You can get 2nd hand IDF's for $1k so.... a bit less.
Oval guys "might" pay a premium for them cause they are smaller bodied and would/could fit better.
Now.... IF they were Berg Specials with Deano manifolds the right old skool guy may pay over the $1k mark
They look like 40DCN carbs to me, I had a set years ago, they surge real bad going around corners, I was told the float bowl design wasn't good for sitting that way on a VW engine. I wouldn't pay much for a set.
They are definitely DCNF's. They came in 36, 40 and 44mm varieties.
The model will be stamped on the side of the carby next to where the fuel hose connects.
I've never seen these DCNF manifolds before - they are very very short. Dont think they are standard DCNF manifolds - they sit up higher than
these I believe.
The fuel line set up is strange too. I'd guess that this is a home made set up, or like blue said, an old skool (60's or 70's) kit.
What they are worth depends on their condition - does the engine run ? flat spots, fuel leaks, play in the linkages are all things to look for.
Unless you can prove they are definately a brand manifold, I wouldnt pay over $700 if the carbies are in good nick (but prices in the west seem to be
a bit different to the east). Ask what they want for them first though - you might be suprised, and get them for a couple of hundred.
I am buying the whole car (for the disk brakes setup) and will be selling the engine (1776 with those carbs) to recop some of my money. The guy is not
interested in seperating the stuff so I am stuck with the car. It runs sweet although I haven't thrashed it

At first they looked like the pair of 40 DCN's I have. So I went to THE SHED and grabbed one of mine. They are the same except yours had at one
time the choke shafts. So they ain't the DCN's but the DCNF's
DCN's were standard on cars like Dino Ferrari's etc.
We had these DCN carbs on an 1835 in a '54 and after setting them up had no real problems on corners etc.
Went like the proverbial shower of back in the early eighties:thumb
Hi
DCNs are 3 bolt, DCNFs are 4 bolt. They look like 3 bolt to me.

Opened my eyes and took another look. Sorry not DCNF as they have the round intakes not the square style of these. Left and right carbs are
different.
Left appears to have had choke shaft etc where the right doesn't.
