This afternoon I had that terrible sinking feeling of the clutch pedal hitting the firewall - broken clutch cable.
I actually have a couple I picked up in a box of bits years ago, but I'm not sure what they fit!
One is VW Australia, part No 12A 721 001A, the other is German, marked part No 111 721 335.
Does anyone have a manual to check if these are right for a '67 beetle, last of the 6V models. Failing that, does anyone know the length of a beetle
cable.
There was also another unmarked cable, which was thicker wire cable than the others - any idea?
Any help appreciated, Angus
well just take the old one out and compare the length if they
match bingo.

It was too late in the day to pull out, and we are down to one car with kids early school starts etc - if I can avoid having to go to a parts store
tomorrow it would be good. It may come to that eventually.
Lee, I'll check that site out.
Thanks guys, Angus
Hi
113 721 335A is the current part number for 62-71 Beetles.
2260mm long.... which should be yours......
111 721 335A is 2250mm long ... 10mm short.. maybe..
depends on the clutch adjustment...
111 721 335E = 2268mm long.... could be used with washers
111 721 335 = beetles up to 1960 model.. no length given..
if its too long... You can use washers as spacers...
or ifs its really too long... use a couple of wire clamps on the wire... many buggies have these... lol

The VW Australia part was the right one, 2260mm long. All good now, it's got the right VW clutch 'feel' now. Incidentally it broke off at the pedal end just behind the fitting. The ones I've seen normally seem to go where it goes through the bowden tube (on the two others I've had fail on me previously).
Good news..
that VW part number was an odd one....
cheers

PS: clutch cables also usually stretch after a few strands break off
which means having to adjust the clutch cable...
this is usually the telltale sign.... LEE
Lee,
How do you know about clutch cables, Mr 68 AutoBug?
