just a few questions about interchangeability of tanks in as bay,my original one is an early style one which is full of rust and crap.I have a tank
out of the 76 i wrecked ,the shape is the same ,i know the sender is different but it has an extra breather,so do i just block it off or do i get
another early style tank which has the breather in it? pics to tell what im on about

I don't know an awful lot about Kombis, but I do know a bit about tanks and breathers.
Prior to around 1976 car tanks generally vented to atmosphere via a tank cap with a breather in it. Around 76 manufacturers started fitting sealed
tank caps and venting the tanks to a charcoal canister or similar vapour storage device. I'm guessing Kombis were similar.
If you use your 76 tank and block the breather, you must use an earlier cap that breathes, like the one from your old tank if it fits. Otherwise, use
a non-vented cap and plumb the tank breather in somehow.
If you use a non-vented cap on a non-vented tank, then you will come to a halt within a few km as the fuel pump causes a vacuum in the tank, until the
pump can cope no more and the fuel supply is starved completely. If the pump is strong enough, you can even dent the tank! THen when you remove the
cap heaps of air will rush in and the car will start again. (BTDT )

well gave it a clean with some bolts and the gurney and it hasnt come up too bad, so i`m going to get a por15 kit from VINTAGE and see how that goes
