it appears that my 56 beetle doesnt have a shift rod bushing are these just metal to metal contact? wot year did they start the shift rod bushing Cheers,.
It's always been there otherwise that bracket woulda worn out within a year 
They can get worn that they just fall out. Probably what's happened with yours as generally no one checks until they have gear selection problems.
and they are little plastic jobbies. You'll probably find remnants in your transmission tunnel.
not in early bugs they used heaps of grease
