just put a std 2 ltr into my 74 ute and she runs great, but seems a little inconsistant at the upper end of the rev range. around 100 km's it seems
to hesitate just a tiny little bit. I have had a similar symptom with a previous 1600 untill i replaced the coil, but the coil on this one is new. I
am running std carbs and an empi quiet pack exhaust. the next step is a set of 40 IDF Webers to see if it helps. I assume this will open up my top end
a little and provide a little bit extra grunt? any thoughts?
all help appreciated
i have found thiming for a good top end is critical i was having trouble with a dead top end ws told it was fuel so i chased fuel for a week than timed it only a few deg's but what a differance
Test your distributor rotor, mine shit it self and caused similar problems.
thanks guys,
i am running elec ignition too if that helps!
what carbs are you running on yr type 4 in the bug deluxe?
cheers, josh

gone with the dtm conversion. i am looking for a type 1 fan shroud kit. you know of any around second hand? going into a rat 65 window van!
cheers, josh
I got some header pipes that replace the heater boxes got them from sharpbuilt not the best but only used them to break In an engine and I mated a type 4 thunderbird to them work good I also have my set of 40 idfs with manifolds linkage and filters that Im about to put up for sale. As for 2nd hand type 1 shroud conversion I do not know of any sorry.
thanks mate, I am looking for 2nd hand to keep costs down and maintain the less than perfect rat condition of the rest of the car. I am very
interested in those webers!!! please let me know how much to part with and how they went on your car!
cheers, josh
Your problem may also be fuel related Josh, a vague or hesitant response at 100 km/h can be a fuel delivery issue if the engine seems to pull through the lower gears ok, but has some issues when fuel demand is higher. Test fuel pump output pressure and volume when the engine is hot.
i am running a facet electric fuel pump that should be putting out up to 7 microns of fuel i think. I will check it out!
cheers, josh
What about the strainer in the tank feeding your super dooper pump?
