I pulled down my 1776 to find the slight knock (one of the rod bolts loose) so i have pulled the rest of it apart and just some normal (little) wear
to the bearings so while its down I'm going to replace them without a machine, but what size?
Crank mains measure 54.70mm (+/- .01 on the three)
Crank Rods 54.70mm on all four
Case Mains measure 65.92mm ( no pounding on center main)
Thanks
Jason
Mate.....what are you measuring with???
Basically, the mains on the ID (crank) go down in .25mm increments, on the OD (case or back), go up in .5mm increments, rod journals are the same as
main journals, .25mm increments.
So your 54.70 is probably 54.75 (1st undersize), and 65.92 must be 66mm which is +1mm on the back.
If this is correct, your after, mains; +1, -.25 and big end are -.25.
Hope this helps.

Bring your crank and rods over dude, and i will measure for you.
Thanks Matt, i think i was sqeezing the calipers too hard when reading them. Better still I'll drop over to Dave's to sort out.
Hey Dave, I'll pick up the guards too.
Good decision. My opinion is that this is what the forum is about.ie helping each other. good luck.Cheers Les

Yep, needs a re-grind, I was hoping to do the cheap fix but not to be. I will have to wait till July 1st and get the tax return done fast.
