Where do I find the engine number
azenis - July 15th, 2003 at 10:16 PM

Hi
I have a 1600 Mexican motor in my Sabre Kit car
I cant find the engine number, and I need it so I can fill out my modification application for rego purposes.
Where do I find it?

Thanks

The engine number should be stamped on the rear of the case just below the alternator stand.

Hi

If its not under the generator/alternator stand it might not have an engine number, you will need to show proof of purchase to your local authorities and have a "police number" allocated.

Or it can be on the top of the right case half under the fan housing (if it was a T3 one)

Thanks guys

Any idea how I would have a mexican motor?
My car is based on a type 3 but it has this beetle motor as they are recommended as being better

My dad and his mate made the motor. Dads mate would have sourced it, but i dont know how or where from he would have got a mexican motor?

it has MEXICO cast into the block, under the heads.

The Mexico and Brazilian plants make new blocks.
They did the right thing and instead of using an old flogged out case they have sourced an new case.
As Steve said - there is a chance that it wont have an engine number and you have to get one

Wow so you say it could be a brand new case?

Thanks for that info, I will get in touch with my mate at the transport department.
