OK, I've spent the last hour researching / searching the Mexican, Brazilian, rebuilding options and all I have got is confused, ran the engine outa
oil and now it has a real bad knock so assume the bearings are shot, maybe the bore and rings, but whatever, it needs major surgery. Now I need to
make the big decision on which way to go so it's over to you blokes to talk me into or out of the next step. All comments and advise will be treated
with due respect unless you start call me names for running it oilless, a few hints on any special tools I may need would also be a help, while I have
a reasonable tool kit the only measuring tools I have is a set of verniers, unless you also class a tension wrench a measuring tool.
Thanks
Don
Hiya Donn,
You might want to point your browser at http://www.vwar.org/ That's the Volkswagen
Automatic Register a website focused on AutoSticks. In the DIY Forum (Member's Step by Step Procedures) I've entered a thread about building an
engine. This, of course, is specifically an AutoStick engine but the procedure from start to finish is very much the same as building an engine for a
regular tranny.
I do make notes about equipment, chemicals, and procedures. And there are a lot of pictures.
It may be of some use to you.
Thanks Bookwus, I have registered and will check it out as soon as I am "aproved", I assume that a VDub motor would be the same for manual as well
as auto so hopefully it will put me on the track to a decision and success.
PS, where is the City of Roses?
Thanks
Don

Ok the donks out, have noticed a bit of oilyness inside the bell housing, not realy oil but certainly not nice and clean, should I be worried about this. Also there is a small shiny mark just below the starter where it apears that the ring gear may be rubbing, only a mark about 10 - 15mm long, is that a concern?
Les, PM sent
(I think your phone is off the hook)
Hiya Donn,
City of Roses ................... Portland, Oregon, USA
And about VWAR.............. you really don't need to be registered to peruse the site. But registering is a must if you want to ask questions about
specific issues. Further, Bjorn, our website administrator has been in and out of his office lately enjoying the Scandanavian Summer so he may not be
able to expedite your registration in a timely manner. But he will get there eventually!
