After a bit of a slog in the 2 ltr, I have started to see the oil light on the dash come on when I slow down to idle. After checking everything, it
seems strange that it has come on. oil is high in the sump, valve clearances are good, temp is ok, so i would have thought that oil pressure would be
fine! there are no leaks, and the engine purrs! where am I not looking? What am I missing?
All your advice is great! cheers, josh
faulty oil pressure switch could be the problem.
Josh, do you know what grade oil is in it?
its not uncommon to get a dim flashy oil light at idle on a hot engine thats got a few KM under its belt if the oils abit too thin or needs changing
needs the right oil.
nothing will do except ACE 30. All other oils thin out coz of too much additives which are suitable only for water pumpers.
Even ACE 40 if it has pressure issues due to high wear.
How old is the engine and how well was it last rebuilt?????
Could also pull the oil pump and blue print, may help, but problem could be bearing oil clearances, cam follower oil clearances, oil pressure relief
issues....to name a few.
Just check you have to right bulb in the right spot.
A while back i thought my oil light kept comin on when slowing down to a stop but then i worked out that i actually had the gen/alt light bulb in the
wrong hole.
cheers guys! very good advice ! oil is fresh! changed it to a penrite oil the day before valla! hpr 15 i think?
will have a look at all the other stuff too! cheers
