Reproduction Semaphores... What to expect?
DieSchnelleKafer - August 11th, 2010 at 08:07 PM

hi guys, ive just bought a set of new reproduction 12v semaphores for my oval. when i was trying to find info on these before i bought them i couldn't find any reviews as such. so im going to give people an idea of what to expect.

these ones are made by "LKW" and another logo i found on the box was "kafer" so whatever that company is.

as for qaulity my dad (certified sparky and technician) he said "thats some fine kit you have there" as you can see in the pics they are pretty well made. i also compared it to a 6v semaphore of our 59 and it was very much identical.

pictures tell a thousand words so here are some pics:

You're right:crazy: I managed to find one last year - in the US. Can't tell you how much, in case the ATO finds out, and wants to know how I had that much money.

Kafer is German for Beetle.

the LKW brand name is for LaiKamWah in Malaysia http://www.LKW.com

The website is only accessible to regitered users and it seems that they only supply to wholesalers. A very interesting range of products.

Price for the semaphores seems consistent around the world and they all look like they come from LKW. I am curious to find a retailer in Malaysia, Singapore or Indonesia who will on-sell the range of products. But havent found one yet.

I wonder how many they sell in a week. They are expensive yes but it's good to know that you can use a 12V bulb, and that it'd work for another few decades!

Let us know how they are to fit and whether you're happy with them once running. I've been tossing up on those for my 57 Oval project but keep choking on the $$.

Might have to take a leaf out of your book and just take the plunge.
