There are different sorts
Mainly the heater arm thing
But also internally
Late 1600 didnt have tha aluminium fin things
To answer your question Lee, I have a couple that dion't look quite rite, as from the pics I see that they aren't usualy welded on to the exhaust, mine have been cut of the exhaust though I still have the complete unit (not much good in a buggy though).
Yes,
Mine were new when I put them on...
also flange bolted on...
but mine have the alloy fins inside...
all the ones I've seen have the fins...
heatsinks... I believe all genuine heater boxes would have the fins otherwise just a waste of time..??
same as fins to used on cylinders as heatsinks...

x2
Going on all the bugs I've owned it looks like 72 was the last year of the alloy finned heaterboxes, none of my 73 and later have, just the J-pipe
type
The output difference isn't that noticable but the weight certainly is
NOT DISBELIEVING YOU GUYS
I stand corrected..
its just that a covered j pipe can't be as good as a finned one??
but j pipes get very hot too... lol
Maybe not needed in the southern hemisphere??
learn something every day.. lol
LEE
PS: actually old heater boxes that have rusted away and just leave the finned alloy j pipes look great... lol
I am more thinking they work TOO WELL
With people not having hoses connected to them (or as above - just bare) that they were cracking too many heads??
As I said - mine work a treat
