engine lid tearing
Stephen62 - September 5th, 2010 at 05:24 PM
I have a 62 beetle. The bracket tin at the top of the engine lid that holds the hinges & spring is tearing itself apart.
It is torn either side of the spring. (I removed the spring) and I have noticed that the hinges are tearing away now.
Is this a common problem ?
Is it worth getting repaired or sourcing another lid, new or used ?
Any advice anyone ?

Hi
I have seen it before... I don't know why this happens..
there are heaps of others out there that haven't done it...
and its only on the early models...
I would replace the engine lid...
cheers

I have repaired one like this. It was not too bad, and $100 to weld it up properly. Then there is paint to do after.

Thanks for the replies.
I will try to find a good replacement and also talk to a few people about a repair
