I'm getting myself a new steering wheel, and whilst I've decided on the wheel, I obviously need to make sure I get the right boss. Is the boss something I'd get from the steering wheel people, or should I get one from a VW shop?

Also I know that the boss required changed sometime in 1974, and mine is a May 74 L Bug. How do I check what boss it is that I need?

most likely you have the tapered spline which is all vw, porsche and audi after 74 till about 93 or so

passed experience has told me bugs with the plastic cased steering column housings are taper spline and the metal ones are big spline pre 74

23mm-ish early
17mm-ish late

So I'll take the steering wheel off and have a squiz then.
