Gday, just got a 76 Kombi, has feshly charged almost new battery. There is no power to ignition switch and fuses appear to be good(they are the old ceramic/wire ones). Engine is a 2 ltr if that helps

do the lights work blinkers etc ,turn the key to the onposition and see if the coil has power ,if these are ok
it may be a wire on the starter motor has broken or just came off a quick slide under the back of the motor should have one big live wire and an earth these will be on 2 big connectors and a push on wire some have 2 ,if all is well there it may be a ignitin switch thats stuffed
happy vwing

Found it. There was a kill switch hidden inside the engine bay, and the ignition was dodgy so previous owner wired a button in. Pretty good oldschool anti-theft devices
