Well as above whats your opinion on rolling guard lips.

Recently tried to fit some BRMs to my type 3 and think im going to need to have the guards lips rolled.

Whos done it ? How did you do it ?

Is it considered bad ?

Some tyre outlets have a roller which attaches to the drum to roll the lip.

Yea iv seen those contraptions..

Iv got the rear guards rolled out a fair bit on my DD subaru to fit 18s under her.. This was done with a piece of tube my my local body shop..

It did crack some paint along the edge and wasnt a solution i was 100 % happy with on that car. But shes got 250k on the clock so a cheap fix was right at the time.

This car is going to be with me for a long time so i want everything done perfect. So Maybey the short axle conversion might be a better option. ( even tho i cannot find a thing about the process or required parts online. )

Don't know about lips, but I'm rolling my eyes.

To do it properly the guard is cut verticaly in a in several places and pieces are welded in so there is enough material to allow it to shaped the way that you want it, it is very hard and expensive to get a shape that does not spoil the shape of the car or troweled up with about a kilo of bog hence the cracking, a good panel beater who knows how to work sheet metal can file finnish mods like this but only if you have enough money

I needed to have it done on my sons bug, I went to a few of the big tyre outlets around here, none wanted to touch it.

I ended up taking the guards off and having the lips professionally flattened on the inside and then repainted.

They usually heat the panel up a bit to prevent cracking.

My elder son had his VR6 Passat front guards rolled in Melbourne. Guy took heaps of care and did a good job. Will see if I can get his phone number and post it later tonight.

Dont ruin a original Type3 with rolled gaurds

1: they have those special contraptions available from ebay rather than using a tube...

Paint cracking is prevented via a decent heat gun and not going to extreme (be delicate :P)

and 2... youtube is great (Heres 3 examples of 3 different methods, the last being the contraption (besides the hammer tool lol)

OK, guy that did my son's VR6's name is Gavan and he is based in Tullamarine but will come to you if required (at extra cost of course). His mob is 0438 892 344. Give him a call and see what he says (Type 3 guards will be a lot thicker than VR6 I reckon).

You can have the backs of the wheels machined.

as long as its fone properly it looks fine and works great

I jst had the gaurds rolled on my charade, so i can get bigger rims, i went to a msash repairer and he warned me that the paint may chip. He did it and it did but he fixed it for free so was all good. They heat the paint to make less chance of chipping but it still happens.

Steve and Daves bug has massively rolled gaurds, if you can find someone that will do a job like thiers.
