Hi all.
Just wanted to ask a quick question with regards to flywheel for a 12V conversion.
Is this a Type 1 12V flywheel? It's 200mm and 130 tooth. But I wasn't sure if it's a beetle one or out of a Kombi Type 4.
Does anyone know what the spec should be for the depth between where the pressure plate bolts on and the clutch plate rides? I'm going to have it
ground so want to have it all right.
Secondly, does anyone have any pictures of a 12V starter motor? What are the major differences to a 6V one and how do I identify one? I'm sure I've
got at least a dozen starters here, just need to pick the right one to have rebuilt.

its a Beetle one as it has dowel pins the Type 4 flywheels are bolted on to the crank with 5 bolts

The starter should have the voltage written on the case. 6 volt starters have a much larger section for the starter bush than the 12 volt ones. You
should also change your starter bush.
If your fitting a 12 volt flywheel in a 6 volt bellhousing you will need to do some clearancing.

I think you may find that's a 180mm flywheel
It's probably a late 1300 beetle one if it's got the 12volt ring gear
The gap between the ring gear and the pressure plate mount looks to big to be a 200mm flywheel
may just be an optical illusion though.

yeah that is a 200mm.
That seal surface and thrust face is pretty ugly....may need a shine up.
Remember that if the crank it is going on, was originally for a 6V-non-O-ring flywheel,
you will need to have one-mm machined from the diameter just before the O-ring groove.(needs to be 55mm to fit over the 6V main journal).
Otherwise it will bind up before being fully seated
Step should be 21mm.
