Hi all,

Now that I have the fuel pressures right and boost being available for longer than 3 seconds, I find another issue...

When it comes on boost in 3rd and top I get clutch slip big-time! When I built the engine 3 months ago, I put a new flywheel, clutch plate and Kennedy 1700lb pressure plate on to get what I thought would be sufficient clutch power. It's certainly heavy on the left foot!

Any ideas on why I'm getting slip? Do I have too much horsepower for the set-up I have? I was told this clutch combo should be okay for 200hp or so and I don't think I'd have more than that. There's no oil leakage getting onto the clutch that I can see. It seems to be okay in 1st and 2nd, but when it gets into those taller gears I can't put the foot down.

If I do have to go heavier in the clutch, how do people overcome the heaviness of the clutch pedal? Hydraulics? Hard to instal/changeover?

I just run a stock beetle clutch plate and Kennedy pressure
and I cut a clutch release lever and welded a bit on so its
longer
Maybe back adjustment off.

what plate are you using? I have heard this before and its also mentioned on gene berg's site. Apparently a lot of woven plates suks balls and cause slippage and premature failure.
So I have heard good old genuine vw plates are one of the best and tri puk ceramic is recommended by gene. He experimented for a long time with different numbers of puks and found 3 puks by far worked the best.

Thanks Ian, Vlad,I'm not sure what the actual brand of plate is I'm using. I'll have to check the box (think I still have it!) when I get home tonight.

I've heard that a tri-puk ceramic is great for drag/race applications but a bit of a bitch for driving around town with lots of stop/start. I do drive the baja around a fair bit so don't want it too cranky if possible.

I'm definitely going to do that extension on the clutch leaver you suggest Ian. Does anyone make one that you can buy? Can't seem to find one anywhere. If I do it myself, what's your experience on the best length.
