As you may have read in my previous posts about making a stock 1500 gearbox have a reasonably long life with a higher HP motor, I am planning to solid mount and brace the gearbox the best i can, But i'm also wondering if a heavy duty side plate is something that will help give the box some life? i mean for the cost of a heavy duty side plate ( they seem quite cheap) is it worth putting one on a standard box? I will not be running slicks at this stage. Any ideas/opinions would be much appreciated.

Most of the cast(cheap) side covers are only marginally(sp?) stronger than stock,
and your first weak link will be the spider gears,
so a superdiff should be first on you list.

You must make sure your preload on the bearings is correct,
and crown whee backlash is in spec, when ever changing diffs or covers.

I have a superdiff and billet s/c here that someone asked to bring in for them,
but they have not piped up so I will sus out what is cost me.

if you have the axles and tubes removed,
and the correct shim selection it is less than a couple of hours work.
You also need two extra spider gears to go into them.

Would you be interested in doing it dave? If so give me a price and I'll see if I can work it into my budget...
