Came out this morning to refit the BIG bolt that screws into the end of each frame horn...
my drivers side frame horn is cross threaded, such that i can only get the bolt to screw in (with alot of effort) only half way.
How do i easily repair this?
Could anyone do this for me for like... say $100 and call over with a helicoil or any solution to take the high load bearing capability it was made
for?
I ain't got much time left for my dead line... (straddie new years)... this is just a pain
Chris.
sorry mate, all i can say is ah crap!, ive seen people drill straight through the frame and bolt and put a bolt throught them both.
that would be one big helicoil
Id try another good bolt and if I had a spare, you could put some cuts down the side of it with a hack saw and use it like a tap with lots of grease
and oil.. or get a big tap.
I have a tap if you have another bolt, with the thread cleaned up and lubed on assembly, there is usually no problem, that is if there is some thread left to salvage.
Chris, try and get the threads sorted if you can, but if it is completely rooted, then I would consider welding the gearbox mounting bracket to the
frame horn. The main purpose of the bolt is to hold the gearbox cradle bracket. You will still be able to remove the gearbox with the bracket in
place.
Cheers
Steve
Thanks for all your help guys...
yea 60% of of entire thread left inside is still good... will try tapping it out with an old bolt as suggested and will get back to yas.
worst case senario i will take the arc welder out and go nuts.
Thanks Ian, Matt and Steve for all your suggestions. I'll get back to yas shortly, hopefully with good news
OMG!
its been cured... what had me in depression is no cured. thanks guys...
I did the 'chop the bolt in a few places' cept via cutting disk instead of hacksaw and lubed it up and treated it as a tap... its schmick!
Back to full throttle again and will get this rear bar fitted and not undo the rear fork bolt again for another couple of years
I owe all beers
I'm sure I have a pic of you doing a 'big cry moment' here somewhere
