Turbo setup for my 1776
FROSTY - January 1st, 2011 at 08:34 PM

Hi There,
I'm now considering a small turbo for my 1776 (budget drager). It has counter weight crank, 130 cam with stock heads, heavy springs, CR is 10.1:1. I'm looking for a real budget set up and need some ideas on models of turbo/carb combination
Thanks in advance
Jason

Renault 5GT turbo. For a 1776 you may want a slightly bigger turbo but the carb bolts straight onto the std manifold and is a pressurised carb.

with your engine I'd estimate 120-130bhp and cheap as chips even if you gotta ship the parts from the UK as the parts will be dirt cheap. :)

TO2 from a nissan. perfect size and easy to mount.

what happened to the dragster?

Hi Stanley, The Dragster is back on again too, this will be done for Warwick this year.

Hi There again, I've been looking round the net and keep seeing the blow through set ups, what sort of mods need to be done to the carbs for this type of turbo?

Thanks
jason

You will need to drop your CR before thinking about throwing a turbo on it, 6-7:1 is around the mark, otherwise all you will have is detonation issues.

That's alot of cam for a turbo setup

Joel I agree, way to much overlap with a 130.
You'll be pushing your charge out your exhaust.

How much street driving are you planning on? The 130 might be a bit big for smooth street friendly turbo driving, but if its only for the drags leave the engine as is, add some race gas and let her rip!!! Worth trying before you change everything, but not streetable obviously....

Check cb performances site for blow through carb bits, I think they still sell most of the stuff needed.

It is a race car.
That cam and comp are not ideal, but will work fine on low boost until he can get inside the engine.
