HI all,
I am building a race car and have aadly just realised that i should have got it registerd historically before i changed anything... Can i still register it as historic if i have mounted a different seat and a different set of wheels..(5x130)?

If so what are my cheapest registration options? i want very occasional street drives and to and from track events??? Don't really want to be forking out full reg al year? Seasonal i think still leaves me in the lurch too.

The legally correct answer is that you can't have it both ways. Either the car is historic or it's modified. Because the car's registration is conditional on it's presentation and historic condition, it would be illegal to get it registered as historic and then modify it significantly. This would technically void the conditions of your registration and your car would hence be unregistered and uninsured.

Basically, you have to pay full rego. Or buy a trailer and tow it. Or even put it on a rally permit. Nobody ever said that racing was cheap.

A lot of people worked long and hard to persuade the authorities that 'conditional' rego. was a good idea.

The last thing we need is for them to srcap it, just because a few people abuse the system.

Agreed. In NSW, historic registration is for period standard road cars, or with minimum period (only) modifications. The guidelines are maintained by the NSW Council of Motor Clubs (of which Club Veedub is a member), and both the RTA and CMC entrust the member clubs to uphold the rules.

I'm not sure what the situation is in South Australia - I guess it would be similar.
