TYPE 3 1600 CRANK QUESTION
Scott G - January 9th, 2011 at 06:31 PM

Hi everyone
ive had trouble with the locater pins on teh end the crank which are loose and wobbling around. have heard different stories about it, obviously the ideal thing is to change the crank, but i did see a tool the other day for re drilling the locater pins and just wondering/hoping that it could be done while the motor is still together
has anyone done this or have and info about it?

just trying to get this motor back in and going asap and this is the only problem with it. currently i can pull the pins out and only one is moving a fair bit.

look forward to and info you guys can help me with.
Cheers
Scotty

No u will have o pull the engine and strip it to remove the crank and replace it if dowell pins are loose

You can get oversize flywheel dowel pins. The holes in the crank are simply drilled to the larger diameter.

Any VW machinist will be able to help.
