Oil Deflector
Toxic-Rock - January 15th, 2011 at 02:40 PM
Hi all,
I have a problem with an oil leak. I have just installed a new alt stand and now shes spewing oil out of the dipstick. I suspect I put the oil
defector on the wrong way as nothing was wrong before this. Please advise which way should it face, a picture would help.

sounds more like your breather pipe is blocked
Is that clear
can you feel air coming out the pipe??

louvers face down and you should not be able to see the timing gears.

Thanks dangerous, in other words the louvers should be facing away from the dizzy to the side of the crank case?

Hi
the crankshaft spins clockwise...
so the vents go down and the holes on the RHS...
so the oil hits the vents and drips down...
But it sounds like the breather is blocked up...
where You put the oil in... has to breath...
a hose or pipe going down under the engine usually...
or if You have an aluminium alloy one with no hose coming out = oil will come out of the dipstick....
take the cap off and the oil should stop coming out the dipstick..
LEE
If the hose is blocked....
oil WILL come out the dipstick.... I know... lol
LEE
SOMETHING ELSE i JUST THOUGHT OF...
If the louvres are around the wrong way... the oil thrown up there could block the breather...?? Lee

Rotation of the crank will throw all the oil up into the breather if the deflector plate has the louvers down and open toward the #3/4 side
Should be open to the #1/2 side and facing down so it drains

Either of the following would work
1) down and facing 1 & 2
2) up and facing 3 & 4
BUT
If oil os coming out the dip stick you have another problem

that's what I said [sort of] Joel...
down and open to 1 & 2... so the oil just drips off the louvers...
and the oil doesn't go up onto the louvers...
and the crank goes clockwise looking at it..
but it seems like there is another problem there...
if You pour oil into the engine...
it does go in?????? no blockage???
and you do have a breather????

Thanks a million for all you guys that helped. Problem solved. Wrong way louver and better breather, just added T piece. I feel so stupid.
Isn't always the simple things?
