Gas cap problems
lliszabailey - January 15th, 2011 at 04:11 PM

My 2000 Rodeo's check engine light keeps coming on every time I fill the tank with gas. I swear I tighten the gas cap more than 3 clicks after I gas up. Could the cap be faulty? If I change the cap will the light go out on it's own or do I need to have a mechanic clear the code again? Please help..and do omix gas cap good? do they offer good parts?

Most modern cars have a completely sealed fuel system.

If the fuel cap doesn't seal and allow the system to create a vacuum, then the computer tells you there is a problem and the check engine light will come on and log an error code.
Oh yeah, this is all for emission control.

Sorry,
We only know about VWs on Here...
try leaving the cap off and see if the light stays on...

one click or three, its all the same, its just the ratchet clicking.

I wouldn't worry about it really.....

check to see there isn't a fuel leak in the engine bay....

if its not leaking .. I wouldn't worry...

and does the light go off after a while...??

You realy are on the wrong site and in the wrong country, we have petrol here unless it's LPG and then the cap shouldn't click.
