I am after a set of heads for a 1916
Any comments on the EMPI heads

What is the difference between the Los Bandito(???) from CB and 044's?
What are the AC net L5's like??
I dont need 50mm valves - stock or 40/35.5 would suffice
Comments??
get some 044s i have on mine pleanty of meat in there for boring out to 94
The Los Bandito and Los Panchito are both VW 043 castings where as the 044 are Auto Linea castings with, as Dave says, heaps more meat. This is great for an all out racer, but I think there are aplications where the VW casting 043 is better, it seems to have higher casting quality and what seems denser alloy and less material that actually has way more air flow through critical area's that are totally blocked to all air flow on the 044's. When using 044's it's good to spend a few hours drilling out and deburring some air passages to improve air flow from what otherwise would zero or very little. The 043 Los Panchito's are nicely cnc'd ports and chambers out of the box, where as if you were after a similar performance level but using the 044 like the round port, I've found the chambers and ports to need reworking as well as having the air flow issues. The Los Panchito are claimed to flow 180hp (I have a 2447 using them that will soon be assembled so we'll see about that) and if your not in an extreme load situation like racing, towing or a offroad bus, I'd go with them, they are heaps cheaper too.
Matt / anyone
My motor is a mild 1916 built by Peter Shelly
It has a 22/62 cam in it and I am not planning on splitting the case at the moment
Guessing it makes just under 70HP
CB site down at the moment
What is the difference between Los Bandito and Los Panchito??
Would you recommend buying these bare or are the valves and guides good enough to use???
I believe the Los Bandito's are not cnc'd, just std 043 40 x 35.5 which IIRC flow around 20% more than stock twin port 040, where as the Los
Panchito's are cnc'd ports and chambers to a Pat Downs favorite. They are a new port design that concetrates on port velocity and flow with quite
impressive flow figures. Definately what I'd buy for your engine, I normally get them complete and do a tidy up and valve job and customise to the
engine requirements, but plenty of people run them out of the box. A very nice, good value product IMO.
:Edit: Of course there is always something better, like IMO, for a top of the line build, I upgrade to Manley valves (but they are heavier) and Scat
or Berg springs at times. So whether you get them complete or not is up to your budget etc....
OK - down loaded the CB cattledog
Do the Los Panchito's take a "normal" manifold??
I am running dual DRLA's
It is just that the Los Banditos picture seems to have standard round ports - the Los Panchito's seem "different"
Doesnt say anything about oval ports
Yep, match port a stock manifold, the manifold seaing surface is only about 5mm all the way around to give you an idea of the port size. I have a set on my bench now, I'll try for a pic tomorrow.
do the Los Panchito's have more "meat" (further than 3 fins deep) than the usual 043 castings ?
buy them complete cheaper in the LOOOOONGGG run
mine have have just clocked over 31K and no probs
I also have 1.4 rockers fitted
4 got to say bought mine of Ebay will find a link 4 u
