I have a 1300 swing axle gearbox thats needs reconditioning or replacing depending on price- the syncros are gone in second. Anyone know anyone that could help me out? Im in Sydneys hills district and im finding it very hard to find people that still work on them.
Hit the phone's bomba. The trick is to ring your nearest vw guy and ask him. When he says no, ask him for a contact. Repeat the process until you
find someone who says yes.
Iv'e been doing it for years.
Andrew Dodd in North Rocks might be able to help you out 9683-2184
Cheers
Steve
I will have a type 3 swing axle box available end of next month or soon if that helps.
Its located Sydney as well.
Its suppose to be all in good order.
No one seems to want to touch them, Andrew Dodd wasnt keen and he couldnt help me out either.
vlad01 i am very intrested in the gearbox. When do you think it would be avalaible. Is it currently in a car?
no its not in a car its as a compete type 3 subframe I just bought. I will being Vinko at vicbahn to pick it up for me and dismantle it and sent me
the ealy sub-frame leaving the axles, drums and box behind.
He is in the states atm and will be back on the 20th. So probably end of this month you will be able to get it. Or I could ask the seller if he
would take the box out for you or maybe let you come take it off.
So the box is in good working order? If he pulled it out it would be much easier, how much $ are you looking for it?
If you cant find a good secondhand one heres a tip.
Get some prices for Rancho rebuilt transaxles. Check their US website for a rebuilt price, add the 'core' charge because its not worth shipping
them your old one. They will even give a quote to ship to Australia. For a swingale you will need to get your axles and tubes swapped over, but that
is done here.
Several Australian businesses are also advertising Rancho boxes, so get a hold of the late Australian VW magazine which is hot off the press.
I figure that if Rancho have rebuilt thousands of them over the last 40 years they should have it pretty well sussed by now.
Surely you can find someone in Australia to rebuild your stock trans!
Especially in Sydney! It is a large city by any standards.
If not, send it to Queensland.
I am not sure what the Rancho boxes cost, but I do not use China bearings,
and will take the pepsi challenge with ANYONE overseas on workmanship.
I am sure that there are other transbuilders in Australia that will do the same.
