Main Bearings

Guys

Do Beetke 1300/1600 engines have two different size main bearings.

I just recieved my new crank and went to dummy up the short and the main bearings have a smaller external diameter than the case. So for example, when you stick in the rear main/thrust bearing, it is really loose in the case and it can slide backwards and forwards in the case as well. By about 1 mm.

On the packet it has HL 87 978 600 std Suit VW 1300, 1500, 1600, 1700 A AR.

Does anyone know whats going on.

Thanks Trev

I should also add.

I just measured the case.

The case bearing dia is 66mm. Bearings I have measure 65.05

The case thrust bearing width is 20.90 and the bearing thrust width is 21.94

So i take it from this info is that instead of the std/std bearings I have now, I need 1mm/std bearings.

You need oversize bearings with oversize thrust so it can be machined down to suit your case. Determining the correct size requires proper measurement.
