Greg, I think Craig was right about your jokes :lol::lol::lol: and I did the same to Craig last night :lol::lol::lol:

Dave, when you said either of these are you trying to tell me that is the only one. It's also the same as the first link in my original post, so will go for that one then. Also would like to see 6000 rpm or more, if there is enough fuel and herbs to do it.

Thanks, Kev

P.S. Greg, before you tell me to get back to working on my car its 40+ down there

On a serious note, [I do have the odd serious moment], No.8 Beetle runs a GENUINE VW fan - not welded. For the last 4 years the engine has been spinning at 6,000rpm, with a stock crank pulley. Now that I've said that, the fan will explode next time out!:dork:

Cheers, and stay cool...........Greg

Hi Kev,
Firstly I never go over 4,000 rpm
so my fan isn't welded and balanced....lol

but the original VW CIP1 fan doesn't have the round holes in the back like the SCAT one does...??

I thought the welded fans are only used for very fast acceleration /revving where the fan can't take the stress...

Maybe the original one is OK Kev....

cheers

LEE

Well Lee, I hope it will rev bloody fast. It's a 2180 with a couple of 48 webbers hanging off the sides.

Kev, if you decide on a genuine VW fan runner, they are balanced in the factory - there is usually a little bit of steel spot-welded somewhere. As well as checking for cracks and damage, make sure it is REALLY CLEAN, as built up crud, or anything stuck to the blades will upset the balance. Now get on with it!

Cheers, Greg

Gee, you two old buggers are nagging me more than me missus :lol::lol::lol:

I might have got that wrong sorry Ian, you might be younger than me :grind::grind::grind:

Anyway, I have modified the tinware to fit and its already at the powder coater's so I am actually moving forward even if you cant see it. Bit like those old fart drivers over 70 something :smilegrin::smilegrin: but that doesn't mean you of course Greg.

I thought going with the welded/balanced fan would just be a bit of an insurance thing, safety first.

Was working on the car Thursday in the heat and my daughters school rang me telling me that she had a heavy fall and grazed her face badly and I should come and pick her up. I thought how bloody inconsiderate of her, I cant take a trick (only joking).

You're right Kev, kids don't care how much trouble they put you to.:fakesniff: My youngest [now aged 42] was regularly getting injured - one day we took him to the hospital because he had a 'sore shoulder'. It turned out to be a broken collar bone!

Don't worry though, it's just a stage they go though - it will only last about 30 years.

Cheers, Greg
