Is the motor seized? To find out, try cranking it by hand (either turn the ignition off or better still take the spark plugs out so it doesn't start while you're hand-cranking).

it would still start to crank if it was siezed though!!! it can be roll started and driven so its not seized

Earth strap??

Badior - July 28th, 2003 at 07:49 PM

Otherwise, check the starter - try one that is known to work.

kombi_kid - July 29th, 2003 at 10:43 AM

hey the starter we put in does work! there is 2 earth straps on from the battery and one from the motor should they both be connected to the starter?????

One should go from the battery to the body, the other should go from the body to the starter.

BTW, there is a difference between a starter that works with no load, and a starter that works with a load. ie. just because it works when out of the car, doesn't mean that it's going to start your car. Chances are though that it's an earth strap (I hope). :)

we used the one to start motor out of the car- so yes it does start motors!:D i hope its something as easy as that aswell!

climb under and short a spanner across the power and solenoid terminals of the starter. There will be some sparks, it the starter don't turn then, well it's dead.

ok update
we hot wired it and it cranked then fiddled with stuff and know it starts to turn over from the key BUT when u turn the key off there is run on of the starter motor so know am thinking thats its the ignition switch!?
