seen as i forgot to put in with the rust question . do you need a cluch alinging tool to put the engine back on the gear box:o

If you've had the clutch apart you do, otherwise it should slip back on with a bit of a jiggle.

A clutch aligning tool is a good idea, but what constitutes a clutch aligning tool is a different question.

I have installed clutches without using an aligning tool, and its a pain-in-the-ass, to put it mildly. These days I use a 1/2" drive socket on the end of an 8" extension bar. Just make sure that the socket sits snugly in the clutch yoke and also locates nicely in the spigot. The extension helps you check that everything is actually square. :thumb

The best tool is a drive shaft out of a VW gearbox
